Jonas Girskis was the first neurologist and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist in Lithuania to introduce a comprehensive diagnostic approach for treating movement disorders, combining neurological, orthopedic, and biomechanical evaluations. The Spine Treatment Centre, established by Jonas Girskis, employs advanced, multidisciplinary methods to address movement and musculoskeletal disorders. These treatments are based on detailed neurological, orthopedic, and biomechanical assessments, ensuring evidence-based and effective care for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.
Spine lesions and diseases: scoliosis, osteochondrosis, disc herniation, and radiculitis;
Bones/joints/ligaments lesions and muscular imbalance;
Faulty posture of children and teenagers;
Postural disorders and problems while planning a pregnancy, during and post pregnancy;
Biomechanical body test and an individual program for those planning to start exercising.
It is a well known fact that with time our bodies, therefore our spine is aging. Few human beings pass their lives without having some type of back, muscle or joint pain. Out of all the human population only about 25% of people manage to avoid back problems, however that does not mean that they will stay forever young or that they do not need to know how spine or muscular system function. One of the greatest Greek philosophers once said that there are no healthy people. We are born already ill and during our lifetime we battle our illnesses. It is difficult to argue with that. With time human body goes through various changes, which can cause illnesses or pain. However it can be kept under control or even avoided.
Most dangerous thing people can do is to trust their health to incompetent and indifferent doctors. Patients often believe that certain back problems come from “clogged” bio - energetic channels and that cleaning those channels would solve the
problem. Human body is not a kitchen sink, which can be fixed with chemicals or mechanical cleaning. Only rational, adequate and complex treatment will bring desirable results. My advice: do not look for a magic leech, miraculous chiropractor or a doctor who has medical device that treats all the disabilities. It is a waste of your time and money. Without a human factor, the applications of the latest scientific achievements and many years of experiences, no medical device will bring long – term successful results. To achieve success any treatment must be systematic. There are no simple or primitive ways.
We believe each health issue requires a personalized approach, as general advice or treatment programs are often insufficient. Our consultations focus on tailored remedial movement strategies, with in-depth analysis of the body’s muscles and joints. We see biomechanically purposeful movement as a prescription from the “body’s drugstore,” demanding skillful analysis and more time than prescribing a chemical drug.
Physical therapist Greta Girskė specializes in the musculoskeletal system, offer preventive consultations or consultation on the existing movement disorders, defective posture, and neck, shoulder, back, hand and leg muscle and joint pain.Her field of interest includes body biomechanics, effects of the disordered muscle function on everyday body movements, regular posture, and correction of the disordered biomechanics with the purposeful physical movements.
This system consists of about 650 different muscles, over 200 bones, and about 280 joints of different sizes. Their harmonious work allows for unrestricted movement. This is a very complex system.
Due to the unique feature of muscles to contract and relax, we freely change the position of the body, move individual parts of the body. As long as this system works in balance, we feel good, and when its activity breaks down, the body sends pain signals. If we are vigilant and listen to them, we will avoid improper loads on the spine and joints. By correcting the improperly functioning musculoskeletal system in time, we will avoid spinal hernias in the future, we will not get acquainted with the joint pain. The harmony of this system is disrupted when we do not change the position of the body for a long time when we sit in a forced position for a long time during working hours, or perform the same, monotonous movements, when we exercise a lot and irregularly, or become overweight or due to strong mental-emotional experiences.
All the muscles in our body function in pairs, moving in opposite directions. Some are called agonists and others are called antagonists. When one of the muscle pairs receives a lower load and the other is overstrained as a result, the tone balance of this muscle pair is disturbed, and the tension of the tendons and ligaments changes. The spine vertebrae tilt, rotate around its axis, and lock in an irregular position. The position of the pelvic bones also changes. At first, even during the slightest movement, an ache is felt, later - a sharp pain. Immediate consultation with a musculoskeletal specialist as well as appropriate biomechanical correction is then required. Without a long-term correction of the spinal and muscle damage, there will be a "conflict" between the vertebral discs and the nerve roots and a disc herniation may form. This accelerates the aging processes in the joints (osteoarthritis) and spinal discs (osteochondrosis). Muscle tissue turns into incomplete connective tissue. We need to remember that a healthy muscle is strong and elastic. Therefore, muscles don’t just need to be strengthened, but also we need to improve their elastic properties, that is, to do stretching exercises. When starting to treat muscles and joints, we should keep in mind that their main function is proper movement!
We must treat the spine, muscles, and joints at the same time. Today, this is done by applying professional treatment with PRECISE movement - physiotherapy. Physiotherapy (Greek κίνηση ‘movement’ + θεραπεία “treatment”) is one of the main rehabilitation measures used in our treatment center. The goal of the treatment is to restore the proper movements of the body. Then the pain will decrease or disappear altogether.
Note: the spine without muscles is just a "necklace" of fixed vertebrae! Muscle-free joints - only fixed bone joints! All the muscles of the body are a harmonious team of movement: each muscle performs only the work assigned to it alone. One of the most important "medicines" of the spinal and muscular system is purposeful physical exercises. Appropriate physical exercises balance the damaged musculoskeletal system. During these exercises, biologically active mood-enhancing substances are produced in the central nervous system. Therefore, when prescribing exercises, it is first necessary to find out which muscles affect the biomechanics of correct movement - whether the muscles are too tense or too weak. Treatment with purposeful physical exercises (physiotherapy) is a no less complicated method of treatment than medication treatment.
When creating a program of purposeful physical exercises, it is necessary to perform an assessment of muscle strength and elasticity and find out which muscles need to be strengthened and which need to be relaxed. It is not the case that identical exercises are suitable for all people, so physiotherapy should only be applied individually! And treatment with painkillers is more a cosmetic "treatment" of the musculoskeletal system and does not eliminate the cause of the pain.
The desire to start treatment is the first step to recovery. And the success of the treatment depends on which doctor you choose. The ideal musculoskeletal specialist should see this system through the eyes of a neurologist, orthopedist, rheumatologist, physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor, manual therapy specialist. It is a complex system of the body that requires both patient patience and physician knowledge to treat.
Today, there are many methods of diagnosing and treating the musculoskeletal system, and patients are wandering around looking for the quickest way to recover. Stop and think, because no self-respecting doctor will diagnose that a newborn baby will start walking in a month. Even in the most qualified medical institution, nothing will accelerate the physical development of the newborn. The child will start walking when his musculoskeletal (biomechanical) system, which is genetically programmed, is formed. While scientists are still considering when (thousands or millions of years ago) man stood on two legs, this unique piece of evolution continues to learn to stand upright! From early infancy, man keeps repeating the same process of evolution: first, he crawls, crawls, creeps, and eventually begins to walk. As already mentioned, human biomechanics is genetically programmed. Therefore, if the hip joint bends less than it has to, say, not 120 degrees, but only 40 degrees, we need to find out what prevents it from functioning freely: whether the joint itself is immobile (due to osteoarthritis) or the muscles are too tense or too weak. Musculoskeletal system diagnostic methods are based on generally accepted neurological, orthopedic and manual tests. When conservative treatment (physiotherapy and physiotherapy) does not produce the expected results, diagnostic imaging - magnetic resonance (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) should be prescribed. The patients of our spine treatment center can be directed to radiology diagnostic centers and return to the specialist of our treatment center who consulted them.
